ICAN is excited to announce Sarah Fogle as our newest chapter leader! She has completed training and will be leading ICAN of Southeastern Illinois!
Tell us about your community!
Harrisburg is in Southeastern Illinois. We have some amazing CNMs that work in our local hospitals; they work very hard to give the women the best evidence-based care possible. I do wish our state would license CPMs so women had the option of Home Birth.
.
How did you find out about ICAN? What drew you to our organization?
I came across ICAN during my research during my journey to VBAC. I’m looking forward to being able to promote cesarean awareness and VBAC to my community. I wish people knew that we don’t only support VBAC, that we want women to make fully informed decisions that are best for them.
.
What would you say are some of your strongest beliefs about cesarean/VBAC awareness?
That the majority of cesareans are unnecessary, that VBAC is a safe and reasonable option most of the time. That I understand a VBAC is not for all women but if the woman had the right support, and information she would most likely choose that option. As a doula, I don’t guarantee outcomes, but with that said, I have noticed that only 1 out of 9 clients of mine have a cesarean birth. To me, this proves that our 1 in 3 cesarean rate is absurd and can be reduced.
.
How would someone describe you?
Passionate, funny, responsible and caring.
.
Please share a little about yourself.
I’m married to my husband, Levi, and we have four children. My second child was a cesarean due to breech presentation and not being given any other options. My third and fourth child were both VBACs. I am a certified birth doula and currently going to a local college for massage therapy. I enjoy working on my little farm, we have several cats, dogs, rabbits and chickens (that produce the freshest eggs!). My children all share my love for animals and we hope to keep extending the furbaby family. I’m very passionate about all I do, professionally and as a wife/mother.
.
Your first/next meeting time, date, location, and topic?
Tentatively Oct 14th. 5-7pm, at my office building, birth stories.
