International Cesarean Awareness Network

I’m a 29 yr old nurse, doula and childbirth educator living in SE Texas. I believe whole heartedly that every woman who wants or needs a doula should be supported by one. Because every birth is a unique individual process, I believe in tailoring my support to meet the needs of the individual mother through various comfort and pain-relieving techinques . Those include: massage, accupressure, aromatherapy, repositioning, verbal encouragement, breathing techniques and generally facilitating a quiet and calm atmosphere for mom. In addition, I believe in helping to support the woman’s partner, whether that includes guidance in pain relieving techniques or allowing them to take a break from the labor to grab a bite to eat, care for their other children or catch a quick cat nap. I believe in a womans innate ability to birth her baby naturally and unhindered, but fully support a womans right to choose the birth of her desire. If her birth plan includes medical intervention up to and including cesarean section, I can and will support her right to make an informed decision based on sound medical advice. While I think a birth without intervention should be the ideal goal, I believe there are times that intervention is medically necessary.

I am currently working towards my certification through Childbirth International as a Birth & Postpartum Doula and Childbirth Educator. Though my certification process has just begun, I bring 8 years of experience with me and a true desire to both support & empower women to have their ideal birth. In addition to my current doula/CBE training, I’ve been a LVN for the last 5 years. I work primarily with cardiac and rehabilitation patients at this time, but have plans to further my education in nursing and not only get my BSN, but become a Certifed Nurse Midwife.
