Welcome to the new site!

We’re really pleased you’ve stopped by. The site has been completely overhauled; it’s different from the inside out, in pretty much every way.

Your Very Dedicated Web Team (Melissa, Laureen, Julie, and Kristy) redesigned this site with one goal above all others; to make the information that women need, on each different phase of their journey, easy to find, easy to understand, and easy to follow up on. We want to enable women to find the tools they need for the decisions they face about their care and treatment.

Please let us know how we’ve done, and send us any suggestions you have for other ways we can meet your needs.

Thanks for visiting!

VBAmultipleC

Just in time for ICAN’s new site release is the debut of ICANvoices’ newest video!

A video montage of women who gave birth vaginally after multiple Cesareans. There are moms who’d had 2, 3, and 4 previous surgical deliveries; some went on to deliver in the hospital and others at home.

Studies have shown VBAmC to be a safe and reasonable option. For more informtion:
  • Read this 2006 study which addresses the safety of a trial of labor in women after multiple and single prior cesareans.
  • See the VBAmC information on the Plus-Size-Pregnancy website. It has excellent pregnancy and childbirth information for women of all sizes.
  • Contact ICAN

This site was such a huge help to me...

I just want to thank all the women and their partners, caregivers and support people who have contributed to this site.  Before birthing my son via scheduled c-section in June 2003 after planning a midwife-attended homebirth (he was breech and after my care was transferred to a obstetrician, as is the law here in British Columbia when complications arise, I wasn’t given many options), I consulted this site and was helped tremendously with the information I found.  But what the site has become, a true community of women sharing their profoundly powerful experiences, moves me to tears every time I visit.  Thank you to all of you for showing the entire world that this is so possible…

Thank you

I had my first child in June of 2007 via emergency c-section and it really did devistate me to feel as if I wasn’t enough to birth my own child naturally.  Since then I have become determined that with my next child I will have a natural birth via VBAC.  This video brought me to tears to realize that it really can happen!  THANK YOU!  For everything, for the ray of hope…for making it ok.

Thank You! I Now Have Hope!

This video had me in tears.  I never felt complete and like I had been robbed of something after each birth.  This is my 4th pregnancy and I was never told I could have a VBAC.  I never even knew it was a choice.  I was always just scheduled for a C-Sect after my first and trusting my doctor never thought to question it.

Thank you so much.  After 3 C-Sect I now have a renewed hope and I am so excited.  Thank you.

~Jennifer

A ray of hope

I am swithching docs at 31 weeks. This video had be sobbing tears of hope, that I can fulfill my bodies design to give birth, remembering the defeat and sadness for my last cesarian, and empowerment over all the doctors who won’t even let your try. Thank you for reminding me I’m not alone!

Overwhelmed with Pride

This site is… it’s amazing. I’m just so proud of all who contributed tireless efforts to make it into what it is. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all. You’ve done an amazing job!

Video of triumphant VBAmultipleCs

This beautiful video had me in tears of joy, as well as pain for all the women who cannot find support for their right to give birth vaginally. Thank you!

How beautiful!

I just had my first child by c-section in October 2007 after attempting a home birth. This video had me in tears — of knowing that others out there have experienced my pain and of hope that some day I will experience a VBAC of my own. Thank you!

Wonderful message

What a wonderful message for women to see. As a homebirth midwife whose been blessed to be present at many home VBACs, I would like to encourage your viewers as well. - Gail
