2016 International Cesarean Awareness Network Conference: Forging Paths to Better Birth

Birmingham, AL
April 8-10, 2016

The International Cesarean Awareness Network (ICAN) is inviting abstracts for presentations to be
given at our upcoming international conference. This conference promotes improvement in maternal-
child health by preventing unnecessary cesareans through education, providing support for cesarean
recovery, and promoting Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC). ICAN brings together mothers and
professionals to work to bring change to the maternal health care system.

Complete proposals must be submitted via email to: conference.director@ican-online.org

Conference Objectives

We are seeking applications for presentations that meet our mission and conference objectives, which are to:

  •  Improve the care to child bearing mothers
  •  Improve collaboration among birth professionals and mothers
  •  Reduce the risk of preventable, unwanted cesareans
  •  Provide support to cesarean mothers

Selection Criteria

  •  Innovation with respect to best practices
  •  Quality and originality
  •  Relevance to the field and multiple disciplines
  •  The extent to which the presentation identifies and addresses current and emerging issues related to our mission
  •  The extent to which the presentation bridges research and practice (proposals backed by findings will be given preference)

Compensation

If your application is selected, you will receive a complimentary conference registration, travel expenses, and hotel accommodations for one night.  Priority consideration may be given to presenters who are able pay some of their travel expenses (e.g., with grant funding, agency support, personal funds).

No honorarium or speaker fee will be paid to conference presenters.

Submission Requirements

All required information for primary presenters and co-presenters must be completed before submitting your application. Incomplete presentation applications will not be considered.

All conference presentations are 75-90 minutes long.  You may propose more than one conference presentation, but all of the following documents must be submitted for each presentation, in order for it to be considered:

  •  A Speaker Application for each presenter
  •  A CV (curriculum vitae) and/or resume for each presenter
  •  A photograph for each presenter
  •  Optional supporting materials

Incomplete presentation proposals will not be considered.

Your application will not be accepted unless all required information is submitted before 11/15/2015. However, we strongly suggest submitting your proposal(s) long before the deadline, as they will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.

ICAN will not generally approve presentations with more than two presenters. To discuss an exception, contact our Conference Director, Christa Billings.

Please complete the speaker application and email supporting documents to conference.director@ican-online.org.

All abstracts will be reviewed and decisions emailed no later than 2/1/2016.
