ICAN’s January Volunteer of the Month

ICAN is excited to announce Elli Mazeres as our January Volunteer of the Month!

Elli is a member of ICAN of the Capital District.

How long have you been an ICAN member and how did you find us?

A bit over 1.5 years. I found ICAN through an internet search.

What motivates you as a volunteer?

I hope to provide support and information to others and to help other women feel empowered, capable, and confident in speaking up for themselves, their autonomy, their babies, and for demanding evidence-based medical care.

What was your proudest moment as an ICAN volunteer? What about your hardest?

I enjoy being involved in ICAN meetings and I was happy to help plan a recent ICAN event. My hardest moments in ICAN are hearing stories that remind me of my traumatic birth experience. I feel both angry and sad when I hear stories from other moms who endured physical and emotional abuse during labor and delivery.

Do you have a profession or any other passions outside of ICAN?

I’m a certified horticulturist and work in the field of horticulture but I am also a plant scientist and bryologist with a Master’s in Biology.

Congratulations, Elli, and thank you for all you do!
